The Global Market Brief explains, in plain words, why the prices and rates American households pay move: gasoline and diesel, groceries, rent, mortgages and loans, utility bills, wages and taxes. Wars, sanctions, shipping routes and tariffs usually start thousands of miles away. We follow the money from the headline to your wallet, so you can see what changed, why it matters and what you can check this week.

How every article works

Each story follows the same path: what changed, who or what moves the price, one key number with its source and date, a worked example we call “Our Math” when the numbers allow it, and one thing you can check yourself. When a source does not give a figure, we say so instead of guessing.

Who’s Behind This

William Tenjo is the founder and editor of The Global Market Brief. He started this project to make sense of a world full of headlines about oil, wars, central banks and trade, with very little clear explanation of what they mean for a normal household. His goal is to explain the mechanism behind your bills, point you to reliable sources and let you decide for yourself.

Beyond this site, The Global Market Brief publishes weekly explainer videos and daily Shorts on YouTube, along with short updates on X, Telegram, TikTok and Facebook.

Our Process

Automated tools monitor established news outlets and official data sources and prepare a draft. Each draft is then checked automatically, line by line, against the sources it cites, and reviewed by a human editor before publication. We disclose this process because we believe you should know how what you read is made.

Our Standards

We name our sources and their dates, we separate what a source reports from what we calculate, and we label every example as an illustration. We do not tell you what to buy or sell, and nothing here is financial advice. Our job is to explain what is happening and why, not to persuade.
